TRAIN TRIP INFO

• These Train Trips are hop on hop off affairs to visit the countryside and towns along the way. Sort of an antidote to air travel. The USA towns are chosen for their historical interest as well as how pleasant and conveniently spaced they are. The Indian trip is about seeing the sights around the Toy Trains. And they are some of the best in India. The African trip has a great mix of the best things along the way on an everchanging journey.

• Some tickets allow you to do this while other ones will require booking the different legs. In some places in the US and Africa it will be best to hire a car to see the local area where you get off - Lake Tahoe for example. For the Indian Trip have everything booked beforehand.

• All trips use a combination of rail journeys, for example in the US you will be riding the Coast Starlight, Californian Zephyr, Lake Shore Limited and the Amtrak Adirondack train. • Each trip will tell you the best month to go. It will generally be when the weather is warm and dry. Possibly in shoulder season so prices are cheaper and crowds are less hassle. Of course you can go any time you want. You may want to go skiing at Aspen on the way past.
