Originally owned by the Spanish Governor, then Madame Lynch an Irish lady who is a very colourful character in Paraguayan history and worth reading about. It was bought by a Dr Andreuzzi in 1873 who turned it into a hotel, a theatre and skating rink.

Once the hotel had opened up the President of Paraguay used to like to come here to get away from the "office".

Dr Andreuzzi obtained permission to put a railway line in the went right up to the hotel.

Many Italian Theatre Companies came to perform at the hotel.
