WHEN -

The weather is pleasant all year round with the temperature hovering between 18 - 28 C


SPRING - September - November

Spectacular with the islands flora and fauna flourishing. It is the best time for bird lovers as many species fly in.


SUMMER - December - February

Great for swimming, beach BBQs and ice cream.


AUTUMN - March - May

Considered by many to be the best time, mild weather for hiking, warm water for swimming and thousands of Providence Petrels arrive for their winter breeding season


WINTER - June - August

Enjoy walks exploring the island and watching the petrels mid-air courtship antics



STAY -

Capella Lodge -

the only 5***** accommodation on this UNESCO Heritage Listed island is a member of the Baillie Lodges collection. They have a commitment and policies in place to protect the pristine environment. Sweeping views over the Pacific Ocean and sitting at the foot of the Twin Peaks of Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird.  There are 9 island style suites deigned to make you feel like you are relaxing at your own Aussie style beach house. All have fantastic views and some have their own plunge spa pool.



ABOUT -

Lord Howe Island 

has a population of  382 people and only 400 visitors are allowed at a time. Most things are walking or cycling distance so it is rare to see cars. It is 11 km long and 300 metres to 2 km wide and has a speed limit of 25 km/h.

There is a minimum 2 night stay. Included in the rates are Gourmet Breakfast, sunset drinks and canapés, dinner, open bar from 6 pm daily (with premium drinks) and airport transfers. There are 5 different rates depending on what suite you pick. They have a range of packages to choose from.

A daily changing menu comprising items like fresh line caught fish, foraged coastal herbs and produce from the Capella's own kitchen garden.


Gourmet Breakfast - juice and smoothie special, homemade pastries, fresh fruit and an a la carte menu with Espresso coffee and leaf tea.


Lunch - fresh caught fish and chips or organise a picnic or BBQ pack to have at one of the deserted beaches or secluded coves. There are some cafes and eateries in the main village as well.


Dinner - Three course menus with seasonal and regional produce. Fresh, light, balanced and healthy meals to keep you feeling well.


There are BBQs scattered all over the island and you can reserve it by throwing a beach towel over it earlier in the day.


Palmsugar - is a great local cafe for a coffee and cake


Pinetrees on Lagoon Road

has a weekly fish fry buffet under the stars



DRINKS -

Capella Bar -  Fresh Juices, Espresso Coffees, Artisan Teas, Icy cold beers, Premium wines, spirits and mixed concoctions.


At 6pm the bar is free with Australian wines, top shelf spirits, locally crafted beers and a Gin Bar.


Sundowners and canapés are served on Gower's Terrace

SIGHTS -

Visit the island museum 

and learn about its history



ACTIVITIES -

Diving - in clear, warm waters with a riot of fish and coral. It is the world's most southerly coral reef and is kept warm by currents from the Coral Sea. It is free from stingers and is close to shore so you can just wander in and snorkel straight from the beach.


You can also see the reef from a glass bottom boat and snorkel from it too.


Walking and cycling in world class areas. A guided day hike to Mt Gower is considered one of the world's best.


Boat Journeys - including Ball's Pyramid, the world's largest sea stack. Diving here is a world class highlight.


Beaches - picnics, BBQs, snorkelling, feeding the fish, spotting turtles, kayaking, SUP on some of the most pristine and beautiful beaches in the world.

TRANSPORT -

Lord Howe Island Airport (LDH) - 

has domestic flights only


Sydney Airport (SYD) - 

Has direct flights from 87 destinations in 26 countries and all continents except Europe.


Daily 2hour flight from Sydney - luggage 14kg guaranteed up to 23kgs which is best split into two bags in case one is brought over on a later flight. 7 kg carry on is also allowed. The island has an airport with a short runway so only certain planes can make the journey.


There are flights from Brisbane (BNE) on weekends.


Complimentary transfers from the airport to the lodge.


There are also flights from Newcastle (NTL) and Port Macquarie (PQQ).
