FOOD -
Hoi An is delicious
It is famous for two dishes which can only be made here as they require the water drawn from a special 1000 year old well in town.
They are Cao Lau and White Rose. Both are noodle dishes. Cao Lau is said to be the history of a city in a bowl as it has influences from the city's history. It's a noodle dish with BBQ pork, greens and a little broth.
White Rose is a more simple dish and consists of flower shaped dumplings covered with fried shallots and served with a dipping sauce.
Some pretty good spring rolls can be found around town.
Hoi An Banh Mi (Vietnamese meat rolls are especially good here),

Grilled pork sticks in rice paper,

Spend a day seeing some of the local sights before transferring down to Hoi An. The Cao Dai religion is a fascinating one and Da Nang has the second largest temple in the country. Marble Mountain also has some fascinating stories. Da Nang was one of two R&R centres along with Vung Tau down south. So while the Americans were surfing and smoking dope on China Beach the Viet Kong were holed up next door in the Marble Mountains. Da Nang is where 3,500 US marines landed in 1965 to greatly escalate the war and the local airport became a major USAF Air Base. The Fifth Military Division Museum is worth a visit. On Saturday and Sunday evenings at 9 pm the Dragon Bridge puts on a show.
Night 3 - or later from Hoi An
Get an early start and take some warm clothes for this one to Ba Na Hills - a bizarre recreation of a French Village from the French Alps. You could either get a private transfer with driver from Da Nang and get him to take you to Hoi An the next day. Or you could hire a motorbike or car from Hoi An and ride / drive yourself. Also have a look in the tours which have a fe transfers in them. There's plenty to keep you busy during the day including a theme park, French Village, the famous Golden Bridgeand a very fine golf course.
EAT- In a word - everything, Hoi An is a Street Food Town. Specifically White Rose, Cao Lau, Banh Mi Hoi An (Vietnamese meat Rolls), Hoi An Chicken Rice, the best Spring Rolls, BBQ Pork, Bahn Xeo (Crispy Rice Pancake), Green Bean Cake, Mi Quang (Tumeric Noodles), Bun Thit Nuon (Vermicelli and Grilled Pork) and Mango Cake (Which is neither cake nor mango)
