It is some people's favourite town - not only in Vietnam but the world. Travel & Leisure awarded Hoi An "The World’s Best City" in 2019. It's easy to walk everywhere. You might want to get a scooter or bicycle for the beaches and further out.

  • A great place to pass the time, soaking in the atmosphere (Ancient UNESCO riverside town with no traffic) and enjoying all of the treats so close at hand. Just make yourself aware of the latest scams.

Nights 1 - 2

  • OVERNIGHTERS - Start off with a couple of nights in Da Nang (once known as Tourane) staying at China Beach or My Khe as it is now known. Spend a day seeing some of the local sights before transferring down to Hoi An. The Cao Dai religion is a fascinating one and Da Nang has the second largest temple in the country. Marble Mountain also has some fascinating stories. Da Nang was one of two R&R centres along with Vung Tau down south. So while the Americans were surfing and smoking dope on China Beach the Viet Kong were holed up next door in the Marble Mountains. Da Nang is where 3,500 US marines landed in 1965 to greatly escalate the war and the local airport became a major USAF Air Base. The Fifth Military Division Museum is worth a visit. On Saturday and Sunday evenings at 9 pm the Dragon  Bridge puts on a show.

Night 3 - or later from Hoi An

  • EAT - In a word - everything, Hoi An is a Street Food Town. Specifically White Rose, Cao Lau, Banh Mi Hoi An (Vietnamese meat Rolls), Hoi An Chicken Rice, the best Spring Rolls, BBQ Pork, Bahn Xeo (Crispy Rice Pancake), Green Bean Cake, Mi   Quang (Tumeric Noodles), Bun Thit Nuon (Vermicelli and Grilled Pork) and Mango Cake (Which is neither cake nor mango)

  • Head down to An Bang Beach for some pleasant beachside or on beach dining. Or  go to the daily (nightly) Night Market that opens from 5pm - 11pm.
