Christopher Columbus was the first European to set foot on Cuba. After the Spanish-American War it was dominated by the USA. In 1959 Fidel Castro led a revolution that kicked out the US backed dictator Batista. In 1962 we had the Cuban missile crisis of which not many people are aware the US had missiles in Turkey pointed at the USSR and Cuba was a retaliation. In 1980 Castro let anyone who wanted to leave Cuba including released prisoners and the mentally ill who fled to Miami. He died in 2016 at the age of 90. Numerous attempts by the CIA to assassinate him over the years were as successful as their Bay of Pigs invasion.
