Doesn't look like much but it was almost my final swim. Learn about RIPS and be cautious (see below) - Phuket, Thailand

· Very important for your health and for your valuables. You want to continue on unhindered to complete your travels and return home safely. With good memories. Generally, I avoid travelling at night and if I do it is normally an overnight train trip in a sleeper or flight. It is best not to ride or drive at night if you have your own vehicle. Trains are safer than buses if you have a choice.

· Like the stickers on the mirror in the toilets at work say - "You are now looking at the person responsible for your safety". And like at work safety should become second nature. Nothing is that important that you have to risk your health. It should sub-conscientiously come into your calculations every time you make a decision to do something. It shouldn't stop you having fun though. Some people seem to think they are in Disneyland and check their brains at the border. It's as if the general rules of physics don't apply. In fact it is probably a more dangerous environment than you are used to at home.  Sadly, many people find out the hard way.
